An introduction.....

I would like to take a minute to introduce you all to my amazing Sister-in-law, Jana. She is one of the most creative, artistic and talented people I know. She is also a great mom of 2.

Her story began when her sister was getting married and was doing the wedding in a 50's theme. She wanted a cocktail hat to wear. She couldn't find one anywhere, so she made one. She had so many people ask her about it. Thus began her shop.

Let me tell you one more thing, my nephew is Autistic, and requires therapy. Most health insurances don't cover the therapy so the proceeds of Jana's sales go to cover his therapy. So head on over and take a look at the amazing hats and other things she has there.

Change

So I am going to apologize just a little up front, this is a post about me. I would also like to apologize because unless you are a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints this post will probably not make much sense or you wont understand some of the terms, and for that I am sorry.

So about 1 month ago it was announced that our bishopric would be changing. I wasn't really worried about it. Until Monday night when we got a call to go meet with the stake president. I think deep down I knew some changes were coming but I was in denial. I have only been Young Womens President for 10 months, so it could possibly be coming now. Well I was wrong. My husband was called as 2nd councilor in the bishopric. (Could be worse he could have been Bishop) They told me that night that I would need to be released from my calling. While sad I was at peace with it. I knew the changes coming to our family is what the Lord wants for us at this time. I guess to say that I was sad was an understatement. I was/am heartbroken! So Rip(I call him that because he can fall asleep anywhere any time, even standing up) was sustained as 2nd councilor, but it has taken a few weeks for me to be released because of General Conference and then a vacation. So a whole month of ups and downs, and dealing with a whole lot of tears and other emotions as to having to leave a calling I dearly. I have definately been comforted by the spirit. I was officially released on Sunday and the new president called. I really am excited for her and know that she is the one who is supposed to take over at this time. As I sit here my first Wednesday night without an activity to go to or carry out, I find myself once again a little heart broken. However I know without a shadow of a doubt that this is what is right for us, but I just needed to take a moment and really write this down. Maybe I just need a few words of encouragement from all of you. Either way I hope I havent bored you to tears, and that you will come back. I have after pictures of Tia I need to share with all of you!

SHHH!! Its a secret!!

So I am going to share a little secret with all of you..... Our family pancake recipe. This recipe goes back at least 4 generations. It was my great grandmother Hazel Louisa Magelby Treasure's recipe. My mother remembers eating these pancakes when she would visit her Grandmother on the farm. So here is the recipe, I might be disowned by sharing it with you ;)

1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
3 eggs
2 cups buttermilk
4 tbsp melted butter (optional)

Mix dry ingredients, then add eggs and buttermilk. If you like thin pancakes thin down batter with regular milk. Lumps are ok, over stirring pancakes makes them chewy.

Cook on your favorite griddle (or only griddle). Flip pancakes when bubbles have formed.

Enjoy with your favorite syrup.
I went to take a picture and this is all that was left!

Easy Sunday Breakfast 2

Baked German Pancakes, Dutch Babies, Fluffy Pancakes.............. Where ever you are from or whatever you want to call them MMMMMM!!!! translates into any language. They are simple and only have 5 ingredients that most people have on hand all the time.

1 cup flour
1 cup milk
6 eggs
1/2 tsp salt
4 tbsp melted butter.
Mix flour and salt. Add the milk and stir till combined. ( I have found that if I do this part first it there are hardly any lumps.) Stir in eggs. Pour in well greased baking pan (the greased part is very important!!). Melt butter and pour on top. Bake at 425 for 20-22 minutes. It will rise up and have peaks when the tops of the peaks have browned it us usually done.

You can add a variety of fruits to this, or serve with syrup. I throw it in and have the kids take a bath while it is baking.

Piano Bench Blech!!

So we recently purchased a piano. I guess you could call it an antique, it is about 60+ years old. They guy I bought it from said it was made in the 50's. It had its origional bench with it and it had lovely cream pleather. I am sure new it wasn't hideous but today it is!! You can't really see in the pictures but there are several stains and a few puncture holes that look like they came from a stapler. I have had this piece of material sitting in my stash waiting for the perfect project. When I saw it I had to have it. So when I was deciding what to do with the ugly bench, I remembered this fabric. It was perfect and I even had enough.

So I was just going to staple gun it over the pleather, when I was talking on the phone with my mom and she suggested of stitching some casing around the fabric,

and them running some elastic through so that I could take it off and wash it. My mom is so SMART!!! So that is what I did. I basically just folded over the edge and stitched it down. Then ran the elastic through and WAALAA!! My piano bench is ugly no more :) Now I just need to cover the completely blank wall above the piano with something fabulous. I have an idea but just not sure how to put it all together.
